Adams vs Eisenhower

John Adams said, "I must study war so that my sons have the liberty to study philosohpy and mathematics."

Dwight D Eishenhower said, "Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, signifies in the final sense a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed."

In this place, they might both be right. So, ultimately, what side does one stand on? Do we accept that one generation starves for the sake of the nation and the hope that their children will have a better life?
